The Philadelphia Eagles beat the Atlanta Falcons, 15-10, on Saturday to advance to the NFC Championship. Philadelphia, the top seed in the NFC, advances and will host the victor of the Saints-Vikings game Sunday in Minneapolis. Tight end Zach Ertz was motivated by the team's underdog status and even trolled ESPN's analysts for picking against his team. "There were too many times we were a little bit inconsistent". "Yeah, absolutely. We're giving our shots to Matt and Julio to go for it to win the game". They didn't have Foles force things to Alshon Jeffery until their top wide receiver got open for a big play to set up a huge field goal before halftime. "Every team has their pros and cons but the cons list for every team is going to be short this time of year".
As Ryan sprinted out right to make the play, Jones slipped to the ground. But Foles outplayed Matt Ryan after the break and looked like the poised quarterback circa 2013. From the Philly 18, the Falcons benefited from two penalties before Ryan scrambled from pressure and found Devonta Freeman for a 6-yard TD and a 10-3 lead. Foles had stepped in towards the end of the season for Carson Wentz, who was lost for the year due to a torn ACL.
The 2016 league MVP hadn't touched that same form most of this season, but he and the Falcons' passing game took a step backward from the strong performance in last week's wild-card victory over the Los Angeles Rams.
"Damn right", Quinn said after the game when asked if he felt confident in Ryan on that fourth down.
"It's hard when you get to the playoffs and you've put in all the work throughout the year", Ryan said. And the entire offensive line, but for one or two times the Falcons got to Foles, played exceptionally well. "Their fans, we're expecting a loud crowd in a big playoff game".
"He had the whole world against him today, and he knew what was coming, but the way he prepared, especially during the bye week, we saw how serious he was, and he had great resolve". The Eagles appeared to rush just four men at the snap, but after Coleman and Toilolo telegraphed they weren't going out on routes, their assigned defenders had license to essentially run a delayed blitz.
STOPPING JULIO: The Eagles had some success against Julio Jones in their win previous year, keeping him out of the end zone but allowing 10 catches for 135 yards. He did have 44 yards receiving on three catches.
The Falcons got the ball back with roughly six minutes remaining.
OVERCOMING TURNOVERS: The Eagles committed the only two turnovers and won anyway.
MULTIPLE BACKS: Both teams have options in the backfield. Tevin Coleman had 628 yards rushing and five TDs.
The nightcap features the AFC's top seed, the New England Patriots (13-3), and the No. 5 seed Tennessee Titans (10-7) at Foxborough, Massachusetts.
On Saturday night, the Eagles were united behind and around their quarterback.
