Mkhitaryan has been linked with a move away from United after failing to win over Mourinho at Old Trafford this season.

The Armenian was one of Mourinho's first signings in the summer of 2016 but inconsistency has blighted the playmaker since he joined from Borussia Dortmund for £26.3million. Stoke are currently sitting in 18th place ahead of the trip to Manchester and are far from being backed to return home with some points. At times, this can be to Klopp's detriment, contributing to the idea that he is often too soft on his players, but for someone like Mkhitaryan, these qualities are crucial. The dazzling attacker took fans off their seats with his array of skills, goals, perfectly weighted passes and twinkle-toed feet to show what he was capable of in fits and spurts. Still, if the right player comes along, and at a steal of a price, you have to pull the trigger on executing the transfer buy.

"So when the transfer window is open it's also open for any club that is interested in our players. So if we do something now, it has to be something we really believe is the right thing to do for the team". The Leicester City striker turned 31 today, and so wouldn't represent a long-term solution to United's squad depth, but Vardy has proven himself to be a reliable goalscorer in the Premier League.

But Manchester United have reportedly emerged as genuine rivals to City, whose main attraction to Sanchez is understood to be the presence of Guardiola, the coach who signed him for Barcelona. Klopp encourages his players to be fluid, particularly in the final third.

Sanchez is undoubtedly the most exciting of the three - although also the least likely.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is expected to return to training in late January/early February.

The Italy international is a target for Chelsea. It was the first time United had conceded all season and was also the first time they had points taken off them, after they won all three opening matches.

"If we do something now we don't need to do in the summer again".

Despite the potential threat Stoke can bring, they have not been firing on many cylinders lately at all, scoring just once in their past three league fixtures.

Pep Guardiola is a big admirer of his former Barcelona charge, but is willing to go as high as a £20 million fee and £290,000-a-week for his services.

Unfortunately for Stoke, several defenders remain injured, including Erik Pieters, who is a doubt because of a tight hamstring, according to Metro's Avinash Bhunjun.
