Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that Neymar's operation was a success, after the Brazilian underwent surgery for a fracture of his fifth metatarsal.

With a 3-1 deficit to overcome in the second leg of their last-16 tie against Real on Tuesday, Emery refused to risk Cavani while Mbappe stayed in Paris to continue treatment on an ankle injury sustained against Marseille in midweek.

Weah might have scored but his late effort was parried by Zelazny.

The operation, performed by Brazilian national team surgeon Rodrigo Lasmar, began early on Saturday morning in the Mater Dei hospital in Belo Horizonte.

'Rehabilitation will begin immediately after the operation under the supervision of the physiotherapist of the club.

"He will be re-evaluated in around six weeks in order to specify a possible date when he can return to training".

Brazil start their campaign against Switzerland on 17 June before facing Costa Rica and Serbia.

Jose Luiz Runco, a former chief medical officer for the Brazilian team, told AFP that Neymar will walk with crutches after two to three weeks, exercise while putting weight on his repaired foot after about 60 to 75 days, and only then return to training. "He will be missed, but we have a team and the players who play in his place will fill that void well".

The report said that Neymar was initially found to have suffered a minor fracture and that PSG were shocked to hear Lasmar say on Thursday that it was a serious break requiring a longer than expected recuperation.

Neymar broke his fifth metatarsal - the bone leading to his small toe - during a 3-0 drubbing of Marseille on February 25.

"It is a little bit complicated because [Neymar] is somebody who took up a lot of space on the pitch", he said.

"I don't think fans like them exist anywhere else", she said. "They watch all the games and when Neymar was injured they cried".

A much-changed PSG side still managed to win 2-0 away to Troyes on Saturday, and afterwards Layvin Kurzawa admitted his teammate was missed.
