Trump on Wednesday even went as far as suggesting that missiles aimed at Syria "will be coming", though no such strike has been publicly announced.

These "voices" and "any possible action" from the West "will contribute nothing but an increase in instability in the region, threatening international peace and security", the Syrian leader stressed, speaking to Ali Akbar Velayati, a top adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. "Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and 'smart!'" He adds: "You shouldn't be partners with a Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!"

The statement by the Foreign Ministry in Damascus comes as a war of words is raging between Washington and Moscow over last weekend's suspected chemical attack on a rebel-held town near the Syrian capital.

But Trump notably also said there was "no reason for this", reiterated his hope for talks with Putin to halt a new arms race, and blamed his domestic political opponents for poisoning ties.

Trump has remained in heavy consultation with France and the United Kingdom since the suspected chemical attack, which killed more than 40 people.

The Russian military said later it had observed movements of US naval forces in the Gulf.

Russia has 15 vessels from its Black Sea Fleet deployed in the east Mediterranean at present including the Kalibr warship earlier used to launch cruise missiles against terrorist targets in Syria and some submarines.

Russia is disputing the claim that Assad's government was behind the attack; Trump has said evidence indicates otherwise.

Russia was quick to come to their allies' side after the latest chemical attack.

Whatever his motivations, Trump was right to hit Al Assad in April 2017 ... and would be right to do so now.

But his military advisers have warned that a scaled-up response risks drawing the United States into further conflict with Russia and Iran, which support Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad.

"Whenever the Syrian army achieves victory in the field, some western countries rise their voices and intensify their movements in an attempt to change the track of events", Assad said, according to SANA.

The FBI seized a number of materials from Trump's longtime lawyer Michael Cohen on Monday, after prosecutors in New York received a referral from Mueller's team, Cohen's attorney said.

Sanders says the confident in laying blame on the Syrian government and its Russian allies for Saturday's deadly attack in Douma.

Trump's tweet also addressed US action against ISIS, who were until recently one of the biggest threats in Syria.

"Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria", Trump wrote.

Several similar attacks followed until the United States launched a limited air strike on a Syrian airbase as a punitive measure against using the chemical weapons again.

"WHO demands immediate unhindered access to the area to provide care to those affected, to assess the health impacts, and to deliver a comprehensive public health response", he added.
